How pip value works

A pip is the smallest standard price move. For most pairs it is the fourth decimal (0.0001); for yen pairs it is the second (0.01). The cash value of one pip is simply the pip size multiplied by the number of units you trade, converted into your account currency.

Pip value = pip size × units × (quote→account rate). On a standard lot of a non-JPY pair, one pip is 10 units of the quote currency. This calculator does that maths for you.

Why it matters

Pip value turns an abstract "20 pip stop-loss" into a real number of dollars, rupiah, or naira at risk. Pair it with the position size calculator to size every trade properly.
